Democratic Left Party:
The Democratic Left Party is a political party that embraces democracy and secularism, opposing religious, nationalist, and ethnic extremism. It strives to unify the Syrian people and establish a state based on the principle of separating religion from authority.
Establishment of the Democratic Left Party:
The Democratic Left Party emerged from the revolution, holding three conferences and maintaining a presence across Syria. The party was born after several months of discussions among its founders, evolving from the Communist Assembly and holding its first conference on April 17, 2014. Since then, the party has practiced democratic rotation of its leadership, with three general secretaries having served. The party adopts secular democracy as its guiding principle, along with the global humanist heritage, and it strongly opposes religious, nationalist, and ethnic extremism. Its immediate goal is to convene a general Syrian conference that includes all Syrians, except those whose hands are stained with Syrian blood. In the long term, the party aims to establish a state of institutions that separates religion from politics while respecting all religions.
Role of the Democratic Left Party within the Syrian Democratic Alliance:
The party has studied and agreed with the Alliance’s documents, respecting the views of the Alliance’s components. It believes in practicing democracy by addressing issues not covered by the internal regulations. The party also plays an active role in the General Assembly, the General Secretariat, the Political Office, and the Advisory Council within the Alliance.
Political Projects of the Party:
The party aims to build strong relationships with all national parties, except those based on religion. It has contributed to the Supreme Council of National Forces, which includes 42 entities, and has issued a stance against normalization with the regime. The party aims to collaborate with national parties to work towards the withdrawal of foreign forces after the regime’s overthrow and believes in the possibility of achieving this through the implementation of UN Resolution 2254.
Challenges Faced by the Democratic Left Party:
One of the main challenges is the subordination of major political institutions to the will of external international powers and the failure to address national issues, such as the deportation of Syrians from neighboring countries like Turkey and Lebanon. In response, the party, along with the National Gathering, has contributed to various national gatherings such as “Tawassum” and “Joud,” and has signed agreements with several national parties.
Future Goals of the Party:
The Democratic Left Party aims to establish a democratic civil state that respects all Syrians, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or race, under a constitution approved by an elected parliament after the regime’s overthrow
