Orchid Syrian Organization

Orchid is an independent, non-profit, non-political, and non-religious voluntary civil society organization.

  • Orchid’s Vision:

A society free from all forms of discrimination and violence against women, where women enjoy freedom, justice, equality, and human dignity.

  • Mission and Area of Operation:

Orchid operates within the Suwayda Governorate in southern Syria, focusing on supporting and empowering women and advocating for their just causes according to international human rights frameworks and relevant agreements. The organization follows the agenda of women, peace, and security in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1325 of 2000. It monitors the challenges and obstacles that hinder women’s access to justice and participation, based on the concept of full citizenship. Additionally, Orchid monitors cases of violence or discrimination against women and works to build interventions to reduce these issues and help victims achieve justice and rights.

  • Orchid’s Intellectual Framework, Values, and Principles:

Orchid’s intellectual framework is based on the International Bill of Human Rights and relevant conventions and agreements, as well as local laws that align with these international standards. The organization’s values include freedom, human dignity, justice, global peace, and respect for diversity. Its principles are non-violence, non-discrimination, independence, participation, responsibility, transparency, accountability, and equality.

  • Orchid’s Initiatives and Strategic Plans:

Aligned with its vision and mission of striving for a society free from all forms of discrimination and violence against women, Orchid has been involved in a number of community initiatives and development projects. These include cultural initiatives aimed at supporting female visual artists in Suwayda, a volunteer initiative to reintegrate children who have dropped out of school due to economic hardships, and other initiatives addressing youth violence, harassment, and projects advocating for the inheritance rights of Druze women.

  • Orchid’s Strategic Plans:

Orchid’s strategic plans focus on expanding networking and collaboration with relevant local and international organizations. Several international partnerships have been established (including with Mars Organization, Impact Organization, the Citizenship Center, Baytna Syria, and CCSD).
Orchid also represents civil society organizations within the Syrian Democratic Alliance.
Locally, Orchid is one of the founding organizations of the Civil Work Revival Network in Suwayda, which includes 10 local organizations and civil work teams, supported by Baytna Syria.
